I thought it was interesting that for some of the railroad deaths, under cause of death they only put the engine number. For example, "Cause of death: Engine #155." In addition to the high numbers of railroad deaths, there are also a lot of drownings in the rivers during the summer. Around 1 out of 4 cases involve people drowning in either the Monongahela or the Allegheny. It appears that people bathed in the rivers, but many couldn't swim. They waded out far enough to bathe, but sometimes a current would take them out further and they would drown.
