Link to the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office
What's the difference between a Coroner and a Medical Examiner?
How did these occupations evolve in legal systems throughout the world?
This is a book you might be interested in about the Allegheny County Coroner's Office:
Deadhouse: Life In A Coroner's Office by John Temple
The library system has a copy of this book, and the reviews on the link above are interesting. I read it over Christmas break before we started on the project in January 2007 and would highly recommend it as good background reading about both historical and current practices in the Allegheny County Coroner's Office through the eyes of a journalist. Temple follows a few cases and gives a picture of what it is like to begin working in the office from the perspective of interns and seasoned professionals.
